What is Botox?

Botox is one of the most recognized neurotoxin treatments in aesthetic medicine. It works by gently relaxing targeted facial muscles that contribute to expression lines such as forehead creases, frown lines, and crow’s feet helping the skin appear smoother and more rejuvenated.

When administered by experienced professionals, Botox is FDA-approved, widely trusted, and considered a safe and effective cosmetic procedure.

What are Neurotoxin Treatments?

At Versailles Health and Wellness, neurotoxins are used to:

  • Full results in 10-14 days
  • Lasts 3-4 months

Who is a Good Candidate?

Most healthy adults who want to soften expression lines, prevent wrinkles, or address muscle-related concerns are good candidates for neurotoxin treatments. During your consultation we’ll review your medical history, current medications, and goals to confirm whether treatment is right for you.

You may not be a candidate if you:

  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Have a known allergy to any neurotoxin product or its ingredients
  • Have certain neuromuscular disorders (such as myasthenia gravis, Lambert-Eaton syndrome, or ALS)
  • Have an active skin infection at the planned injection site
  • Are currently taking certain medications that interact with neurotoxins (we’ll review at consultation)

Possible Side Effects & Complications

Neurotoxin treatments are extremely safe when performed by an experienced injector, but like any medical procedure they carry some risks. We believe in fully informed patients – here’s what you should know before treatment.

Common and Mild (expected, resolves on its own):

  • Pinpoint redness at injection sites (resolves in minutes to hours)
  • Mild swelling or tenderness
  • Small bruises (more likely if you took blood thinners or alcohol beforehand)
  • Mild headache, especially after first treatment
  • Temporary feeling of “heaviness” in the treated area as the product takes effect

Less Common (usually temporary, resolves as the product wears off):

  • Asymmetry between sides of the face
  • Brow drop or unwanted brow heaviness
  • Eyelid ptosis (a temporarily droopy upper eyelid)
  • “Spock brow” (over-arched eyebrow), correctable with a small touch-up
  • Smile asymmetry (most often after lip flip, DAO, or masseter treatment)
  • Difficulty fully closing the eyes or dry eye sensation

A Note on Eyelid Ptosis

In the rare event that eyelid ptosis occurs after a neurotoxin treatment, we can prescribe Upneeq® – an FDA-approved prescription eye drop that gently lifts the upper eyelid – to help while the effect naturally resolves.

Rare:

  • Allergic reaction (itching, rash, or hives)
  • Spreading of the toxin beyond the intended area, causing weakness in nearby muscles
  • Difficulty swallowing, speaking, or breathing — extremely rare, primarily associated with neck injections
  • Flu-like symptoms in the days following treatment

FAQs

Cost varies by area treated and number of units. We provide customized pricing at your consultation. Financing options may be available.

Yes, for many patients, Botox and dermal fillers can be administered during the same appointment, depending on your aesthetic goals and the recommendation of your provider. Botox works by relaxing the muscles that create expression lines, while dermal fillers restore volume, enhance facial contours, and smooth out deeper wrinkles. When used together, these treatments can provide a more balanced and refreshed look.

Many patients choose to combine Botox with fillers to achieve a comprehensive facial rejuvenation with less recovery time.

They are all FDA-approved neuromodulators with very similar effects. They differ slightly in onset speed and how the product spreads in the tissue. Your provider will select the most appropriate option based on your goals, treatment area, and how your body has historically responded to neurotoxins.

We currently offer Daxxify and Jeuveau. Both are excellent options — Daxxify is best for patients who want longer-lasting results (5–6 months), while Jeuveau is a great everyday choice with a familiar 3–4 month timeline.

  • Avoid the following for 7-10 days prior to treatment (if medically appropriate)
  • Aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen, and other anti-inflammatory medications.
  • Avoid alcohol for 24 hours prior to treatment.
  • Patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not receive treatment.
  • It is recommended to schedule your appointment at least 2 weeks before any major events to allow time for the effects for Botox to fully resolve.
  • Do not rub, massage, or apply pressure to treated areas for at least 24 hours
  • Stay upright for 4–6 hours after treatment (no lying flat or face-down)
  • Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours
  • Avoid alcohol and excessive heat (saunas, hot yoga, tanning beds, hot tubs) for 24 hours
  • Avoid facial treatments such as facials, microneedling, or laser for at least 24 hours (ideally 2 weeks)
  • Gently exercise the treated muscles by making facial expressions for the first hour, if your provider recommends it
  • Sleep on your back the first night when possible

Yes. Mild redness, swelling, or small bumps at the injection sites are normal and temporary. These typically resolve within a few hours to a few days. A cool compress can help, and most patients are back to their normal routine the same day.

We typically recommend waiting until at least the 2-week mark before evaluating your final results, since neurotoxins continue to settle in over that period. If at your 2-week check-in you’d benefit from a small touch-up, we’ll take care of it.

Yes. “Preventative Botox” is a common reason patients in their late 20s and 30s start treatment. By relaxing the muscles that create dynamic wrinkles before those lines become permanently etched into the skin, you can slow the formation of deeper static wrinkles down the road.

That’s the goal. At Versailles Health and Wellness we focus on a natural, refreshed result — not a frozen one. We dose conservatively at your first visit and adjust at follow-ups so your expression stays yours.
